Harry Potter (no spoilers, but better read this after you read the book)
Posted on 2007.07.27 at 09:56Current Mood:
I was not sure about reading the books, a friend told me to read them and lend me the first and the second, I took about 4 weeks to begin to read the first, I recall I began while waiting for my dentist…
The book captured me since the beginning, the author writes in a very sensitive way, and takes you inside the story easily, besides, her characters are round up, well constructed, with qualities and misdemeanors. She portraits them like complete human beings.
I am a fast reader, and I read the book quickly and then reread it, just to catch on all details (that’s my reading habit), then came the second which was darker and so full of angst… I guess it’s my least favorite book of the series…
It was then when I realized that the Harry Potter story is a modern version of Cinderella, the main character lives a horrible life with his relatives until someone saves him, but is not a beautiful fairy godmother, is a bushy and rude giant who takes him to a world he never imagined it existed, and the main character has to face his enemy, all by himself…. Quite coherent with this age “save yourself” tendencies.
The third book offered a quite different statement, throwing Harry headfirst into danger, but also our hero enjoys a little more liberty, far from the Dursleys… then the Sirius Black character was introduced, and truth to tell, he is a force to be reckoned with… and then we all got really angry that Harry couldn’t go to live with him.
The fourth book was clearly an event that every fan was waiting for, and the book lived up the expectations of the people, in this book the author began the book with Voldemort… a tendency that she would keep
The long waited fifth was clearly the proof that a writer must not be put under pressure: the author was blocked and it’s quite evident… this one is my second least favorite of the series… and the worst part was Sirius death which if you ask me was very stupid… something more heroic would be better.
The sixth was way better and was the beginning of a wrap up of the series, still the death of a certain long standing character was a blow to most fans and well. The main character begins to have a very strong change, he is a teenager, he is impulsive and he is getting impatient…
And then it comes the final book, all of us, the fans where waiting for this with anxiety (we wanted to know the ending) and dread (there would be no more books). I personally maintained my self isolated from all Harry potter sites to avoid spoilers (the goddamn leaks…) and maintained the same policy while I was reading the book… I was entertained, I despaired, I cried, I screamed, I cried again and I was surprised.
I think the ending was good (could be better… could be worse) the author did a neat job, after all not all authors know how to give a good ending to a good story), not all fans will be satisfied, after all, the Potterverse is something alive, in the mind of every fan, and in the collective mind of the fandom and each had their own ideas of how it was going to end… she could not please everyone, right?
I think that the story was so rich, so tangled, with so much characters…. That it would take another book to wrap the entire story properly, she promises a Harry Potter encyclopedia where there will be some wrap up…
As the author said in one interview:
[More details to come?
Rowling said she may eventually reveal more details in a Harry Potter encyclopedia, but even then, it will never be enough to satisfy the most ardent of her fans.
“I’m dealing with a level of obsession in some of my fans that will not rest until they know the middle names of Harry’s great-great-grandparents,” she said. Not that she’s discouraging the Potter devotion!
“I love it,” she said. “I’m all for that.” ]
The interview will be found here (be warned has A LOT OF SPOILERS it will be better to read if you have already finished the book) http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/1995932 3/
I guess, the details will be up to the fanfic writers
When I finished the book I felt empty… there would be no more story, no more of that sense of community in the Harry Potter Fans… and this is sad.
I have to thank J.K. Rowling for writing a story that allowed us to dream, to fantasize… to give us a sense of belonging … and to give us the world she created…
Thank you J.K. Rowling

Current Music: Ginnungagap - Therion

![]() | I am:William GibsonThe chief instigator of the "cyberpunk" wave of the 1980s, his razzle-dazzle futuristic intrigues were, for a while, the most imitated work in science fiction. |

I went to the TNT con this weekend, this time the cosplay was very good, and I have a few photos (sorry about the crappy quality)
This girl cosplayed as Felicia, she was not wearing the usual likra bodysuit and not even a g string… and I bet she got some wax applied…
That’s a brave girl

this orc cosplay was great… the make up was head to toe

I loved the geishas

this doom really looked impressive

my favorite… this Rose of Versailles, that’s what I call a cosplay

Take The Which Fallen Angel Would You Be Quiz
Brought to you by Angel August's Abode
Ironically for an evil angel, Penemue was the curer of stupidity.
This seems to go against church doctrines which state that demons are stupid.
However, a demon needs to be intelligent and cunning in order to be able to tempt the wisest of men.
He also taught man the bitter and the sweet, and the secret of their wisdom.
Worst of all, he taught the use of ink and paper in writing.
For God had said that human beings were not created for such purposes.

We awoke en Belfast this Monday
I remember… 15 years ago, that we saw the news about Ireland about the IRA bombings and we though about them with pity… 5 years later, the terrorism was strong in spain, but everything seemed so distant… we read about the drug war in Colombia and saw it so far… once I read an article about the kidnappings in Italy… the guerrilla in center america
It was so far, it was so distant it was so terrible
It seemed a nightmare
And we awoke on Monday and is not a nightmare any more…
3 years ago the kidnappings began… and they are still strong, they are more refined, they are a reality
The drug bosses are the owners of the north and the border…
The whole state of Oaxaca has been taken over by a rebel group… isn’t that a guerrilla, isn’t that a rebellion..isn’t that a problem?
This monday 6th of November… 5 bombs exploded in several places of the city, home made bombs, made with common ingredients… (someone saw V for Vendetta… someone read some manuals in the internet)… and then the city became more hostile than ever…
Martial law should be decreed…I guess
And then I remember the words of someone (forgive my memory…) that those who trade security for liberty don’t deserve none…
Either way we are in deep shit

One week and 3 days since a group of stupid activists took one of the main avenues of the city to make their point clear (their point has nothing to do here, valid or not, they have no right to affect the rest of the city) the traffic has become a terrible problem, almost all citizens have to take alternate routes, which are, to say the least, full of traffic… and what the activists say? “rise earlier “ … preposterous
The denizens (I guess is the best term for them) have camped in the streets, enjoy electricity, food and even have sports and fun, all paid by the government of the city, hence, by us, the citizens… that comes from our taxes…
So, isn’t that lovely? They threw the city into a chaos, the commerces and restaurants are suffering, they are firing their employees, the tourism is suffering… and the economy is being affected.. do the denizens care? No… “Blame the government, they say”
They vandalize, they paint walls, they throw dirt to the streets and people… but they are expressing themselves…
If you tell them something, you are repressing them… that’s why the government does nothing… they preach hatred and intolerance… but they are expressing themselves
